Melting Icescapes / Black Landscapes
This work visualises the probable future of glaciers in the Himalayas due to climate change. The public is possibly unaware that glaciers are the largest reservoir of freshwater on Earth. As humans advance, our behaviours leave an unyielding impact on the landscape, resulting in significant ecological impact – an ineradicable "human signature". Our relationship with nature is being altered in profound and complex ways by unprecedented climate changes. This project visualises the complex and often awkward nature of our relationship with nature.
This work expresses the impacts of climate change on the Himalayas using the materiality of art. It uses the materiality of matter and form to convey purpose, expression and meaning; the entangled relationship between human advances and their impact on landscape trespasses the boundaries of science and humanities.
